Early morning on board the Celebrity Equinox was beautiful and sunny. Because we didn’t arrive into San Juan until 3:30pm the day was, for all intents and purposes, another sea day! So we enjoyed the beautiful weather and some drinks by the pool until we slowly made our way into the Port of San Juan.
Even though sitting by the pool is what we enjoy, you can find TONS to do that doesn’t involve baking outside. Everyday Celebrity cruise has informational sessions about the ports and other destinations – today’s was on the exotic ports of call whcih Celebrity visits. They included Dubai to the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China and a really interesting and informative presentation. Definitely worth a look!
After the recent hurricanes at the end of 2017 we were apprehensive about what may wait for us in Puerto Rico but as we came into the Port of Old San Juan we realized that she looked very lush and most of the buildings had already been repaired. Of course we understand that much of the island still remains in desperate need of assistance but from a tourism perspective they have worked very hard to clean up this area of Puerto Rico.
With the late arrival into San Juan, the ship wasn’t scheduled for all aboard until 10:30pm and so many guest would have planned late afternoon and evening excursions but we had just wanted to walk through town for a bit and then get back on board early enough to have our dinner. As noted above, most of the buildings had their exteriors repaired and the vegetation looked as vibrant as ever but upon closer inspection you could see where there had been damage and where multiple trees had been replaced. We managed to give back to the economy with some shopping and a trip to the bar before returning back to the ship.
Before heading to dinner we decided to play some cards up in the Sky Lounge which was a favourite for the cruise and they were just finishing up with Motown Classic trivia (honestly every where you looked there was some activity going on!)
For dinner tonight we decided to try out the Tuscan Grille which is promoted by Celebrity as “Contemporary Italian”. I believe the cover charge was $45 USD per person. Located at the aft of the ship this is a beautiful restaurant with an amazing menu. After the cover charge you can have as much to eat on the menu as you wish. Most of the group had steak (I had chicken and pasta since I am newly a chicketarian).
