This past week Disney Parks released an exciting announcement that many in the Disney-verse were anxiously awaiting – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is opening ahead of schedule on May 31 at Disneyland Resort in California and August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
Disney reports that on the opening day guests will be able to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon in an immersive ride simulator, feast on space-themed food and beverages and walk throughout a land that will feel out of this world.
Phase two will be open later in the year with another featured attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance which Disney says is “the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of the climatic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
Valid theme park admission will be required to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and guests staying onsite will have the opportunity to spend additional time in the park during Extra Magic Hours. Details will be available at a later date.
Tips when planning your trip to Walt Disney World and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
To help with all of your vacation planning, Disney released the following tips and details to help start with your planning:
Park Admission: Regular theme park admission is required to enter Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There will not be a separate ticket for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Land Entry: Because Disney anticipates significant interest (and let’s face it, a lot of crowds) during the opening months they noted that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open during normal park operating hours and during Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney’s FastPass+ Service will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Walt Disney World so our recommendation is to arrive at least 1 hour prior to park opening and ride that attraction first.
Planning your Vacation: Guest should remember that vacation packages and park tickets do not guarantee access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the land will be subject to capacity restraints and restrictions.
